Dialysis in Paradise

Alan Pride has kidney failure and has to do home dialysis, which entails the draining of a sterile fluid in and out of his peritoneal cavity four times a day.

Here he is under the palms at the family-run and excellent Beachcomber Lodge, possibly digesting at leisure one of their delicious breakfasts – or maybe working hard thinking about which beach to stroll down to.

Many people with this condition think it means the end of travel and adventure, so we took these photos on a recent trip to Lord Howe Island. Alan is pictured doing his dialysis while enjoying his holiday, and the images were made into a poster for Blacktown Dialysis Centre.
